Frequently Asked Questions

Why Do I Need Chiropractic Care ?

Most people first attend a chiropractic clink because they have pain. Pain is the body's way of telling you that there is a problem, it is not a bad thing. Problems lead to reduced health and occur for all sorts of reasons, the most common being physical traumas, RSI, operations, birth pregnancy, stress and poor posture.

Who Should Receive Chiropractic Treatment ?

The simple answer is anyone.

The gentle nature of the McTimoney method makes it suitable for people of all ages including young babies, children, pregnant woman and elderly.

People visit their chiropractor for treatment for a number of conditions e.g back pain, sciatica, neck pain, shoulder pain, whip-lash injury, repetitive strain injury, stiffness in the joints and bones, muscular aches and pains, migraines, tension headaches, minor sports injury.

What To Expect

When a patient attends for the first time a thorough case history is taken by the chiropractor. With the patients consent, a full physical examination is carried out. This enables the practitioner to form a diagnosis and plan of treatment.

What Is A Treatment Plan ?

A treatment plan is the number of treatments that the chiropractor thinks you may need to alleviate your symptoms, and help heal the cause of your pain. Treatment may continue even after you become pain-free to prevent a recurrence of the cause of the problem.

How Many Treatments Will I Need ?

The number of treatments varies from 2 to 10, but most people find they are well on the road to recovery after 4 to 6 treatments. There is no hard-and-fast rule as everyone is different and it depends on:

  • Your age. The older you are the longer it takes to heal.
  • Length of time with the condition. In general, the longer you have had it, the longer it takes to go away.
  • Your general level of health and fitness. `the healthier and fitter you are, the quicker you heal.
  • Whether you follow post-treatment advice.

Does It Hurt ?

Generally, no. McTimoney adjustments use very little pressure to correct spinal misalignments. The art is the speed, accuracy and dexterity of the practitioner.

What Do I Need To Wear ?

Your chiropractor will ask you to undress down to your underwear for the initial examination. Thereafter,if you feel more comfortable a gown, which fastens down the back, is available for you.

Patients are asked to wear suitable underwear and some prefer to wear shorts.

Do I Need To Bring Anything With Me ?

If you have X-rays please bring the written radiologists report with you.

X-rays or scans are only organised if they are necessary.

If you are on medication, please bring the details of it.

How Will I Feel After Treatment ?

Everyone is individual, therefore reaction cannot be predicted. People report a whole range of reactions - from feeling better, happier, and full of energy to feeling emotional, tired, dizzy, worse-before-better, or even having a headache. It is important to remember that any change, good or bad is an indication that your body is starting to adapt.
